

She was born April 9, 1926, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Edd and Eva Menscer Johnson. She was a devoted homemaker and a lifetime member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the County Line Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she helped make quilts to raise monies to build and fund the station and was a vital part of the fire department’s barbeque and chicken pie suppers and fund-raisers.
On January 26, 1946, she married Otha Lee Stroud who preceded her in death on June 28, 2010, who was her constant companion and caregiver. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law and caregiver, David Johnson on August 29, 2011; a sister, Evelyn J. Jarrett; and a brother, Thomas Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters, Edith S. Johnson of Mocksville and Martha Ireland (Jerry) of Yadkinville; a son, James L. Stroud of Ocala, FL; a daughter-in-law, Carol Stroud of Mocksville; eight grandchildren, Randy Stroud, Robert Stroud (Carrie), Regina Gunter (Scott), David Lee Johnson (April), Carl Boger, Odell Boger, Dee Dee Carpenter (Ray), and Kody Hernandez; four great-grandchildren, Michael Lanning , Justin Lanning, Callie Stroud and Taylor Carpenter; a great-great-granddaughter, Kami Rae Lanning; three brothers, James Johnson (Hilda) of Statesville, Harold Johnson (Rachel) of Hiddenite and Ray Frank “Peanut” Johnson (Nancy) of Lincolnton; and two sisters, Mabel J. Cape and Ellen J. Beckham (Thomas), both of Statesville.
Funeral services celebrating Pauline’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Childress officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the Society Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
