Edna Pauline Mayberry

She was born December 31, 1921, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late John Wade and Ora Brewer Connolly. She attended Central School, was a seamstress with Bali Company and was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hiddenite. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on July 5, 2008, by her loving husband, Chester A. Mayberry, Jr.; an infant son, Donald Arthur Mayberry; a daughter, Virginia Mayberry Stikeleather; a grandson, Aubrey Stikeleather; three sisters, Annie Mae Johnson, Catherine Connolly and Maggie Connolly; and a brother, Marvin Connolly.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara M. Hawks and her husband, Virgil, of Statesville; two grandsons, Alan Hawks and his wife, Julia, of Galax, VA, and Danny Ray Stikeleather of Stony Point; a granddaughter, Paula Angeline Hawks Rushing and her husband, Scott; two great-grandchildren, Ben Rushing and Celina Rushing, all of Statesville; and a brother, Wayne Connolly and his wife, Reba, of Mooresville.

Funeral services celebrating Pauline’s life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hiddenite with the Rev. Chris Benfield and the Rev. Tom Lambert officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at Mrs. Mayberry’s residence.
