Elaine Smith Crawford

She was born October 10, 1914, in Ridgeville, SC, and was the daughter of the late Collins E. and Alice I. Whaley Smith. She was a graduate of Winthrop College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in science and math and was a retired teacher and librarian with Iredell-Statesville Schools. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Crawford, whom she married on July 5, 1941; and two brothers, Collins Edward Smith and James Booth Smith.

She is survived by a sister, Denby S Zimmerman of Statesville; a brother, C.E. Smith, Jr. of California; a sister, Caroline Kuempel of Texas; numerous nieces and cousins; and many special friends and family.

Funeral services celebrating Elaine’s life will be held at 11:00 Tuesday, February 7, 2012, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jennifer Bingham officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 AM Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
