

She was born in Union Grove, NC, and was the daughter of the late George and Georgia Campbell. Along with her husband, Edgar Moore, who died in 2003, she lived in Washington, DC and Forest Heights, MD where they raised their family. After retiring from the JC Penney Company, they moved to Statesville, NC and then to Blacksburg, VA. Esther was a member of the Blacksburg Baptist Church for 16 years where she loved to adopt college students and go on trips with the senior group. She was a great volunteer, working with the American Red Cross for over 20 years. She also volunteered at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, VA, Smithfield Plantation, Blacksburg, VA, did taxes for seniors, and collected data the 1990 U.S. Census. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and granddaughters and was able to meet her great grandson in September.
She was preceded in death by a sister Martha Snow and a brother Wayne Campbell.
She is survived by her son, Garry Moore and his wife Mary Carol Madej of Herndon, VA; daughter Joan Moore of Blacksburg, VA; granddaughters and son-in-laws, Elizabeth and Phil Larsen of Rochester, MN, Amelia and Brent Gazlay of Burnsville, MN; great grandson Charles Edgar Larsen; sisters, Lessie Williams, Magdalene Ellis and Martha Campbell; a brother, Luther Campbell; and 33 nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Avenue, Statesville, NC at noon on Saturday, March 26. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
