Mrs. Evangeline Miller Cockerham, 86, of 715 Crestridge Dr. Statesville, died Wednesday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Wilkes County on April 4, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Foster Miller and Dora Bolin Miller. Mrs. Cockerham was a homemaker and a member of Bristol Drive Baptist Church. On August 23, 1940, she married Mr. James Estes Cockerham who died on December 7, 1990. She was also preceded in death by step sons, James Robert Cockerham and Carl Cockerham, a step daughter, Mrs. Barbara Deas, three brothesr, Burl Miller, Carl Miller and Don Miller, and three sisters, Effie Bard, Lillie Huffman and Maggie Cockerham.
Survivors include three sons, Benny Estes Cockerham and Larry E. Cockerham both of Statesville and Billy Clayton Cockerham of Troutman, two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Danner Moreland of Mocksville and Mrs. Clara C. Robinson of Statesville along with a step daughter, Mrs. Jo Ann Cox of Advance. Also surviving are a brother, George Miller of Thomasville and sisters, Mrs. Barbara Basin of Sophia, N.C., Sterlia Bumgarner and Mabel Cockerham of Millers Creek, N.C. and Clara Yates of Lewisville, N.C.
Additional survivors include grandchildren: Crystal Robinson, Paul Cockerham, Todd Danner, Crystal Daniels, Mandy Lowery, Amanda Thomas, Lindsay Moose, Erick Cockeram and Shannon Cockeran, along with 4 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Services celebratiing her life will be conducted at 2:00 Saturday at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Dr. J. B. Parker, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
