Born October 6, 1924 in Olin, N.C., Faye was the daughter of Samuel Flake and Leah Jurney Goforth, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Dwight Goforth and Ralph Goforth, both of Olin and their spouses, Ethel and Lois Goforth.
Faye graduated from Union Grove High School and married William Henderson, who survives her. Most of their 68 years of married life were spent in Statesville, where Faye enjoyed lengthy employment with Shell Oil Company, and, in her later years, assisted in the family business, Henderson Furniture Company.
An accomplished gardner, Faye's green thumb was demonstrated by a beautifully manicured yard filled with blooming flowers and a bountiful vegetable garden which she joyfully shared with neighbors and friends. She was a member of the local Business and Professional Women's Club, and was an actively involved member of Front Street Baptist Church for most of her life. But, by far, Faye's energy and love were given to her family, to whom she was a constant source of love and support. She was happiest when she was by her husband Will's side. They traveled the world together, spent a part of each day hand in hand, and inspired many by their devotion to one another.
Faye is survived by her beloved husband, William Walter Henderson, sister, Kathleen Goforth Guy, of Statesville, a daughter, Jean Henderson Snyder and husband, Steve Snyder of Charleston, S.C., daughter, Emily Gail Henderson Ray and husband, Michael Ray of Raleigh, granddaughter, Ashley Henderson Ray of Raleigh, granddaughter Jessica Ross Sterling and husband, Scott Sterling of Charlotte, grandson Cameron Ross of Charleston, great grandchildren Carson Sterling of Charlotte and Leah Ross of Charleston, and many nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
The family wishes to extend much love and gratitude to Betty Colvert, Faye's sister-in-law, who spent countless hours comforting and caring for Faye in her greatest time of need.
