Mr. Gentry Michael (Mike) Brewer, 67, of 151 Bevis Lane, Statesville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on July 20, 1945, he was a son of Gentry Lee Brewer and Willa Dean Williams Brewer, both of whom survive.
Mike was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant, having served in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Purple Heart, The Good Conduct Medal, The Viet Nam Service Medal and the Viet Nam Campaign Medal. He loved to paint, make pens and enjoyed shooting air rifles with his grandchildren.
On September 19, 1970, he married the former Sylvia Neal who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Michael Brewer, II., and his wife, Pam of Statesville and two daughters, Amanda Reichart and her husband, Russell of Statesville and Kimberly Teal and her husband, Justin of Troutman. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Caleb Teal, Claire Teal, Chloe Teal, Tyler Reichart, Haley Reichart, Peyton Adams and Cali Adams along with a brother, Tony Lee Brewer of Statesville and two sisters, Judy Lance of Mt. Pleasant, N.C. and Willa Dean Sigmon of Statesville.
Services celebrating Mike's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Roberts officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail. the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening (this evening) at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be assembled at the residence of the deceased.
