

She was born April 15, 1956, in McDowell County, West Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Albert Day and Frances Virginia Gross Hankins. Prior to her disability retirement, she worked with Trim Systems in Statesville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Montaigne; and an infant sister, Margret.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Flake Junior Combs, Sr., whom she married on May 26, 1973; two daughters, Karen S. Combs of Troutman and Sandy Norman Shank of Asheville; two sons, Flake J. Combs II (Shawnessy Marie Adams) of Troutman and Christopher “Chris” L. Combs of Statesville; a sister, Margie Williams of Statesville; three brothers, Joe Montaigne (Christie Lee) of Statesville, Elisha James Montaigne of Kentucky, and Larry David Montaigne (Carrol) of Hillsville, VA; and nine grandchildren, Chylowe Combs, Blake Combs, Taylor Combs, Nicole Norman, Olivia Melton, Ashley Norman, Tesha Shank, Aquamarie Combs, and Jaspher Combs.
Funeral services celebrating Geretta’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 12, 2012, at Hillside Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Shoemaker and Roger Holland officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
