Glenda Rom Creswell, 64, of Statesville passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Wake Forest surrounded by her children and their families on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 19, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Walter Kurt and Laura Smith Boro. She resided in Statesville for the last 15 years and formerly resided in Huntington, NY, Tarrytown, NY, Peekskill, NY, Salisbury, NC, and Greenwood, SC.
She graduated from SUNY (Farmingdale) as well as Garner-Webb College. She was a registered nurse for 43 years and worked as a nurse for the Veteran’s Administration for 29 years working at the VA Hospital in Salisbury as well as the VA Clinic in Winston-Salem. At the age of 38, she was commissioned into the Army Reserve Nurse Corp where she honorably served for 22 years before retiring as a Major.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who lived life to the fullest. She appreciated all aspects of life, especially her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed and always remembered for her smile and laughter. She especially enjoyed stained glass craft and painting.
Mrs. Creswell is survived by her son, Jeffrey Rom and his wife, Cathy; her daughter, Stacy Adkins and her husband, Jeffrey, both of Wake Forest; a step-daughter, Lisa Myrick and her husband, Bradley, of Gilbert, SC; a step-son, Matthew Creswell and his wife, Lesley, of Murrells Inlet, SC; a sister, Wanda Fellman of Huntington, NY; a niece, Dawn Puglia and her husband, Michael of Reading, MA; and nine grandchildren, Grayson, Paul, Evan, Gregory, Meredith, Leah, Laura, Nathan and Griffin.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 23, 2011, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 525 Camden Drive, Statesville, with Father David Fitzgibbons officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
