Harriet Ethel Henderson Troutman, 79, of Harmony, North Carolina and formerly of Shelby, NC, Greenville, SC and Summerton, SC, died on Thursday, July 31, 2025 after several years of declining health. Harriet was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Max Donald and Hilda Lanelle Whitaker Henderson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Victor Collins and Doris Levan Troutman and by her brother-in-law, J. Wylie Goble. Harriet was a member of a number of churches as she followed her husband's pastoral career. In her working career, Harriet was a Social Worker, a Teacher, and worked in differing Administrative roles. She was also an animal rescuer and had many beloved animals throughout her life. The career that captured her interest and her heart, though, was that of being a mother and a wife.
Harriet is survived by her husband of 52 years, the Rev. William S. "Bill" Troutman; by her son, William D. "Will" Troutman of Harmony, NC; by her daughter, Sarah L. "Laney" Troutman of Harmony, NC; by a sister, Jan Davis (Jim) of Ohio; by several nieces and nephews; by several cousins; and by her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth T. Jordan (Ken) of Belmont, NC and Pam Troutman (Jim Smith) of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:50 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Ave., Statesville, NC 28677. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will occur Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Glenn Davenport and the Rev. Ray Nelson Campbell officiating. Harriet will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, North Carolina.
