Hazel Stewart Sharpe Lane

She was born October 28, 1925, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late John Bergen and Naomi Watts Stewart. She was a faithful and active member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. She retired from Hickory Spring Furniture and later worked with Johnson’s Cleaners for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William R. Sharpe and Virgil G. Lane; eight brothers, Robert Elree, John Cullen, Charlie, Ralph, J.C., Herman and Bill Stewart; two sisters, Ruth S. Bennett and Gladys S. Mize; and two siblings who died in infancy.

She is survived by her son, William Larry (Tonda) Sharpe; three grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” (Traci) Sharpe, Tiffany S. (Mike) Stewart), and Bradley (Sarah) Sharpe; and 6 great-grandchildren, all of Statesville.

Funeral services celebrating Hazel’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Naomi King and the Rev. Frank Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
