
She was born Julia Helen Kennedy on March 18, 1914, in Iredell County, and was the daughter of the late George Washington Kennedy, Sr. and Daisy Albea Kennedy. She was a member of the Troutman High School Class of 1932 and for many decades, was a seamstress for Troutman Shirt Factory. She was a long-time member of Troutman Baptist Church where she served for many years as church organist, taught Sunday school, was a leader of the WMU, and a member of the Baptist Training Union.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Boyd Cook, whom she married on May 27, 1946; and two brothers, Robert Lee Kennedy and George Washington Kennedy, Jr.
Helen is survived by her son, Jeffrey Lee Cook and his wife, Belinda Joy Cook, of Wake Forest; a sister-in-law, Edna Kennedy of Harmony; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Helen’s life will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Troutman Baptist Church, 305 Perry Road, Troutman, with Dr. Paul Childers officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service and the family will receive friends following the service Thursday evening at the church.
Burial will follow at 10:00 AM Friday, September 10, 2010, at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
