Today is going to be a difficult day, laying my grandma’s body to it’s earthly resting place….thankful to know it is not her eternal resting place, but still praying for God’s comfort. Heaven’s lucky to have you and so was I🤍


Davis && Grandma/MawMaw Cake…Davis was born on Kate’s 75th birthday and she loved that so much!

My name is Jennifer Ida Clendenin Hatley, so you can say I may have been predestined to have similarities to my grandma. Out of all my grandparents I would definitely say we were the closest…after all I gave her a birthday twin (Davis) for her 75th birthday. We both married younger men, we both had FIVE kids and we both LOVE Jesus. Height, weight, eye color and shoe size….the similarities are many. My selfishness longs for more days, but I know in my heart of hearts that there’s no greater joy than knowing she met with Jesus and just how much she longed for reunification with my grandpa and those who gone on before her. Several weeks ago I found a paper I wrote on her when I was elementary or middle school…the few pages detailed her parents, siblings and random tidbits of her life. One memory that sticks out right now is riding on the pontoon wrapped in a towel she always packed snacks (generally crackers and Vienna weenies) but would hold me on her lap with a hat on that seemed to shield us both from the sun, her soft hands would gently pat me into a restful nap. I’m so blessed to have 33 years filled with love, memories, recipes, and most dear to my is the advice/prayer over me and my family. My heart is burdened by her absence, but oh the rejoicing we will share when we meet again!


Dear family of Kate:  I graduated with Kate and was in touch with her when she was in Statesville.  I will miss talking with her and I'm so sorry for your loss but know that Kate is in Heaven and is rejoicing with Jesus and all her loved ones who passed before her, especially her husband.  May God hold you close and comfort you all through these coming months and forever.  Love, Linda

I have so many memories of mom. I was the 4th of 5 or as I like to say the 3rd middle kid. Not the oldest and not the baby. Mom was always busy cleaning. I guess with 5 kids and a husband working 3 jobs she had her hands full cleaning up after us. Not really, she did a lot of the cleaning but she made sure everyone got their own list of chores. Then there was camping. She loved camping. Her and my dad out of their 43 years married probably camped 35 of them. She was a loyal woman. I don't just mean loyal to my dad but to anyone she befriended. She would go out of her way to help someone in need. Growing up we were like most we didn't have a lot but we still enjoyed what we had. We thought everyone ate green bean sandwiches. She loved any kind of vegetable sandwich, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, onion, cabbage, I think if she could have figured out a corn on the cob sandwich, she would have eaten it. Oh, and meatloaf sandwiches. I also remember growing up every year in the fall she would fix her famous lasagna and we would watch Lawrence Welk and then the sound of music. It was what we did every year. I always looked forward to that. I was the accident-prone child so we got to spend a lot of time at the ER over my childhood and she was always there to comfort me. She loved attending church with dad. He was her world and when he went ahead without her to get things ready for them in heaven, she seemed to lose her zip. She was still mom but you could always tell she missed her best friend. I am so thrilled that dad finally got everything ready for her to come and join him because I am sure they are camping on the celestial shores as we speak. 

Kate Clendenin was the first thing I saw when I came into this world. She was my mother and she nurtured, taught me, mentored me, and loved me. Momma always supported me throughout my life in both good and bad. There are so many happy memories that we shared and that I will cherish for the remainder of my days. Mom was a grandmother and great grandmother, for whom she loved all greatly. You could tell she was overjoyed when any or all of them were present. I am so happy that they all got to experience her love. Mom was  a Christian and she shared that with us all from an early age. She always let us know God was guiding us and that he was the only way for true salvation. I am so comforted now knowing she has received that salvation and is with God, Dad, and all that proceeded her with God’s grace. I love you Momma!
