STATESVILLE Isaac "Buster" Leatherwood, 92, passed away Thursday Nov. 15, 2018.
Buster was born in Mount Sterling. He was the son to the late Dillard and Hattie Leatherwood. He was a Seabee in the United States Navy. He returned to North Carolina after his service and married Lib with whom he just celebrated 71 years of marriage. Buster was a salesman all his life beginning at Auto Parts, Electric Company, Holmes Wreckers and lastly with Statesville ABC. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone about their lives. He was particularly happy to have been able to provide many hours of fun at the lake lot on Lake Norman. He spent many hours camping and fishing there. That was Buster's home away from home.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by youngest daughter, Susan Leatherwood; and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Leatherwood; daughter, Kathy Ipock; son, Larry (JoAnn) Leatherwood; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
The family will gather and receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of Buster's life Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
We will all miss his quiet strength and gentleness.

I remember working for Buster and Lib at the Dairy Bar in Statesville Mall. They were both a great joy to be around. Years later I met Buster again in life and we became friends again. You couldn't help loving him and you never seen him without a smile and always willing to help someone. I will always have great memories of him. They knew my mom and dad before I was born. I was told that it was something about getting a boxer bulldog puppy and I laughed To Think that they knew me before I ever knew me. He will truly be missed and he was very well-loved. God bless you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone I know he will be missed.

Mom is going to try to get around to see your Mom or call. She is not getting out to much anymore.

Kathy and Larry,
Remembering all of the fun times we shared together with our families growing up. Your daddy was always so caring and loved y’all so very much. I remember being so surprised when I saw his fireman suit hanging going down the steps. I asked who’s was it and him grinning saying it’s was his. I was so proud of his bravery and willingness to serve his community. So many wonderful memories we all shared. God bless you and may his love be a comfort to you.
