

Born in Forsyth County on June 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Grady Blanco Hawks, Sr. and Myrtle Leona Harrell Hawks.
Jim graduated from Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem, and worked as a Sales Representative with R.J. Reynolds Company, until his retirement. After retirement he worked at J.C. Penny Distribution in Statesville for a period of time then as a part-time funeral assistant with Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home for eight years.
He was a member of Front Street Baptist Church where he served as an Usher and volunteered in many areas. He also volunteered at Davis Regional Medical Center.
Jim enjoyed playing golf, and walking his dog Sampson. In years past, he enjoyed bowling, and playing on the church softball team.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Hawks, Jr. and Olin Elwood Hawks.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy G. Mills; three daughters, Kimberley (Jeff) McMahan of Statesville, Kristi (Rodney) Miller of Troutman and Kelli Abraham of Statesville; six grandchildren, Brittany, Heather, Savanna, Josh, J.R. and Tanner; two great-grandchildren, Zander Cockrell and Georgia-Kate McMahan; sister-in-law Hattie Hawks of Rural Hall, NC and his beloved canine companion, Sampson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
The funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will follow in the Westmoreland Chapel of the funeral home at 3:30 PM with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Josh McMahan, J.R. Miller, Tanner Abraham, Clint Benbow, Mark Cockrell and Brooks Austin.
