Jane "Coo Coo" Carolyn Horne Riley

She was born August 16, 1942, in Iredell County and was a daughter of the late John William and Katie Lou Montgomery Horne. She graduated from Statesville High School and received her teaching degree through her studies at Appalachian University, Mitchell Community College and Lenior-Rhyne College. She did her student teaching at N.B. Mills School and was a teacher at N.B. Mills School where she retired after 37 years of service. After retirement she was a devoted tutor in the community who saw and believed in the learning potential of all people. She was an avid volunteer at Fifth Street Ministries where she served faithfully for many years and was a most giving person who shared with all. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed flowers and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Horn; a sister-in-law, Pat Horn; and a brother-in-law, Joe Gibson.

She is survived by a daughter, Tammy Riley (Mark) Widenhouse of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Christopher Allen Riley of Statesville; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Widenhouse, Stephen Widenhouse, and Matthew Widenhouse, all of Mt.Pleasant NC; two sisters, Julia “Judy” Horne Church of Winston-Salem and Jackie Horne Gibson of Clemmons; three brothers, John (Joanne) Horn of Charlotte, Joe(Martha) Horne and Jeffery Fletcher (Carolyn) Horne, both of Statesville; 16 nieces and nephews; and 32 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating Jane’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, November 26, 2012, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
