Born on July 9, 1928 in Watauga County, she was the daughter to the late Tom and Fannie Townsend. She attended Landmark Church of God and the Senior Center, where she loved to work with other people there. She loved to cook, garden, sew and quilt. She retired from Iredell Memorial Hospital and the Woolworth Harvest House. She always thought of others before herself.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Clay and Wayne Townsend.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her husband of 72 years, Raymond L. Cornett Jr.; sons, Glenn Cornett (Donna Wallace), Richard Cornett (Jeffery), Steve Cornett (Becky), Tony Cornett (Melissa) and Gary Cornett (Wanda); family member, Linda H. Cornett; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Francis Bentley, Beatrice Pitts, Hazel Townsend and Norma Townsend; brothers, Ted Townsend and Herbert Townsend and many other loving family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 15, 2019 in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Jeans grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will gather and receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jean’s name to Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, North Carolina 28625.
