

He was born October 22, 1932, in New York and was the son of the late Norman and Hansine Erickson Andersen. He was a retired carpenter and worked in the construction industry for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of the Dixie Boat Club on Lake Hickory where leaves many friends with whom he enjoys spending time.
In adition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Thomas “Tommy” Andersen; and a brother, Norman Andersen.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Deegan Andersen, whom he married on February 13, 1955; two daughters, Leann (Mike) McHargue and Nancy (Wayne) Childress, both of Statesville; three grandchildren, Christopher “Chris” Hollar, Amy McCoy, and Cameron Padgett; three great-grandchildren, Ariel DeShields, Sydnie McCoy, and Ava Esh; and a brother, Arthur “Artie” (Audrey) Andersen of Ashtabula, Ohio.
Memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, September 12, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. The family will speak with friends immediately following the service.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
