

He was born in Iredell County on March 30, 1927, and was a son of the late Glenn and Sarah Lou Bost Cline. He was retired from Sealtest and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until 1947. He helped organize the Cool Spring Volunteer Fire Department, served in the department for 30 years and served as Chief from 1968 until 1972. He was also a member of Abilene Church Of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Eidson, Peggy Bass and Louise Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Cline; two sons, John William Cline, Jr. of N. Augusta, S.C. and David Allen Cline and his wife, Terri, of Statesville; three sisters, Sue Webster of Statesville, Nancy Jo Styers of Newton and Beulah Mae Riddle of Statesville; four grandchildren: Sabrina Armstrong, Mary Howard, Justin Cline and Joshua Cline; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Cline, Paige Howard and Tabitha Armstrong.
Funeral services celebrating Mr. Cline's life will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Abilene Church Of Christ with Mr. Leon Cash and Mr. Jim Smith officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will assemble and receive friends at the home.
