

He was born on December 29, 1941 in Ritchie County, WV, son of the late John Samuel Martin and Otha Lucille McGuire. John spent most of his career as a boiler operator and maintenance/repair person in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an avid motor sport fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing and celebrating good times with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sheri; daughter, Kathleen and her husband Smith Trent IV of Statesville; three sons, Jack and his wife Janet of Statesville, James of Cleveland, OH and John Jr. and his wife Lisa of North Ridgeville, OH; ten grandchildren, Felix, Breanna, Destiny, Christopher, Nicole, Courtney, Amanda, Mackenzie, Skylar and Jayce; three great-grandchildren, Julian, Aaliyah and Adam; brother William and his wife Tess of Parkersburg, WV; sister, Betty Smith and her husband John of Quaker City, OH; half-sisters, Barbara Loar and Josephine Bowe; half-brother, Michael Lanham all of Columbus, OH and a numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Jason; sisters, Earlene, Geraldine and Alberta; brother Albert and half-brother, Melvin Lanham.
Per John’s wishes there will be no formal services, there will be a private memorial for immediate family at a later date.
John’s family would like to thank the wonderful folks at Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County and Gordon Hospice House for their compassion, support, and care during their time of need.
