

He was born August 3, 1924, in Vandercook Lake, Michigan, and was the son of the late William George and Margaret Leslie Melvin Masson. He was a retired air conditioner and refrigeration specialist and a former maintenance worker with Holiday Inn Express in Statesville and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where he part of the Friendship Class and the Methodist Men.
On September 7, 2006, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Maggie” Mary Ryan Masson, whom he married on November 18, 1944. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas, Earl and Kenneth Masson.
John is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Killian (John) of Lansing, MI, and Cecelia Bissonette of Statesville; a son, John W. Masson of Statesville; a sister-in-law, Elaine Masson of Concord, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites being accorded by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Thursday at the church prior to the service.
