

Mr. Kenneth Coleman Byers, 59, of Statesville passed away on June 21, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy battle with lymphatic cancer. Mr. Byers was born on December 1, 1951 in Statesville to Eva McLain Byers, mother and the late Coleman Byers, his father.
Mr. Byers graduated from Statesville High School in 1971 and began his line of business as a professional painter. From 1988 he continued in his chosen occupation for over 22 years at Iredell Memorial Hospital. There he made long lasting friendships with the staff of Iredell Memorial Hospital who considered Ken to be part of their family and loved him as one of their own.
Ken considered his fellow members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Major Stephen Dodson Ramseur-Reuben Campbell Camp #387 to be his second family. He was also a Charter Member of the AK Simonton Military Order of Stars and Bars, Chapter #152. He was a founding member of the Iredell Blues Skirmish Team which represents the 4th NC Company A of which he was a past commander. As a member of the Iredell Blues, he participated in many re-enactments with the Allison Woods Living History as well as numerous other memorial services.
Surviving members of his family include his wife Lisa Berry Byers, son Jeramie and daughter Melissa both of the home, one sister: Barbara Byers of Statesville, two brothers: Jerry Byers (Robin) of King, N.C. and William Byers (Regina) of Mooresville, three nieces and three nephews.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one infant brother, Ricky Lane and one infant sister, Wanda.
The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m.. Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery conducted by Rev. Stephen C. Reber. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Ken wants to say farewell to all his brothers and sisters of the sons and daughters of the confederacy forever.
