

She was born December 16, 1928, in Olin, NC, and was the daughter of the late Henry Price and Ada Casey VanHoy. As a life-long resident of Olin, she loved her community and always had a smile and words of encouragement for everyone. She enjoyed working word search puzzles, playing the omnichord and writing poetry and had published a book of poetry, Joy in Believing. She was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Adult Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on October 20, 1991, by her husband, Clifton “Cliff” Holmes Stack whom she married on February 8, 1949; three sisters, Evelyn Holcomb, Ethel Miller, and Lela Jurney; and a brother, J. Pierce VanHoy.
Mabel is survived by her three children, Jane S. Bundy (Ben), C. Van Stack (Tammy) and Lori Dickens (Chris), all of Olin; three grandchildren, Mary Beth Rappaport (Jon) of Arden, NC, Laura Sax (Todd) of Seattle, WA, and Bill Bundy of Winchester, VA; three great-grandchildren, Lizzie and Max Rappaport and Jackson Sax; two brothers, Harper A. VanHoy of Union Grove and Robert L. VanHoy (Faye) of Oak Island, NC; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Blanche VanHoy of Harmony and Betty Tatum (Bud) of Statesville; and a brother-in-law, Red Jurney of Harmony.
Funeral services celebrating Mabel’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Union Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Kirby and Pastor Clarence Cloer officiating. Burial will follow at Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will speak with friends following the service at the cemetery and at other times will be at their respective homes.
