She was born December 1, 1919, in rural Cleveland County and was the daughter of the late Cletus and Adelaide Walker. She spent her early years helping on the family farm and working in her father’s general store. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Gardner-Webb University and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University. While in college, she became a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and remained an active member for most of her life. In the years following college, Margaret taught public schools in Union, Cleveland, and Iredell counties and finished her lengthy academic career serving the students and families of the Statesville school system. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Robert C. Williams, enjoyed travelling the world, boating on Lake Norman, vacationing at their condo in Cocoa Beach, dancing at The Elks Club, spoiling her grandchildren, and enjoying the company of a vast circle of good and caring friends. Meg, as she was known to many of her acquaintances, was an adept and skilled bridge player and looked forward to her monthly games with friends and fellow sorority members. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Statesville who enjoyed the communion and fellowship of her Sunday school class and the inspiration of her minister, Dr. Jeff Porter. Upon the death of her husband in 2007, Margaret continued an active lifestyle and moved into her own independent senior living residence at Cardinal Village on Davie Avenue. In 2009, due to health issues, Margaret moved into The Gardens where she spent the rest of her life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert C. Williams, her beloved daughter, Joyce Cain Judson, brothers, Aubrey A. Walker, Joe M. Walker, and Claude C. Walker.
She is survived by her sister, Francis Forney of Shelby; two sons by marriage, Robert H. Williams of Woodleaf and Richard L. Williams and his wife, Kasimira N. Williams, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Lark J. Williams, Melody L. Williams, Travis C.
