

She was born November 5, 1943, in Holtville, CA, and was the daughter of Doris Hefner Griggs and the late Bowman Griggs. She was a member of First Baptist Church and served as the executive secretary there for five years. She was lovingly devoted to her mother and her family. Marilyn had a passion for making all those around her feel special with her gift of hospitality and her genuine love of others. She had a ready smile and was quick to laugh. Her daily life was deeply founded in her faith in God. She had many interests including, sewing, cooking, reading, walking, sky diving, horseback riding, camping, and trout fishing. She served as managing editor of The Armed Forces Journal in Washington, DC, and enjoyed performing in the Little Theatre on the NATO base in Naples, Italy.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 36 years, Gregory Mayforth; a daughter, Tracy Lellie (Tony) of Statesville; two grandchildren, Jessica and Madison Lellie; her mother, Doris Hefner Griggs of Statesville; and two brothers, Gary Griggs (Doris) of Waco, TX, and Butch Griggs (Donna) of Colorado Springs.
Services celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church, the Rev. Debbie Leonhardt and Dr. Jeff Porter officiating. The family will receive friends in Adams Hall at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday, prior to the service.
