Born July 8, 1926 in Keysville, VA he was the son of the late Leonard Lee Johnson and Flossie Mae Queen Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald Johnson; one sister, Naomi Johnson; two brothers, Dewell Johnson and Dwight Johnson and a son-in-law, Steve Killion.
Mr. Johnson served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He was an avid wood worker and worked in auto body repair and welding, having owned his own business, as well as retiring from J.C. Steele after 17 years of service.
Red was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 63 years where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and member of the choir.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth Teague Johnson of the home; daughter, Norma Killion of Sacramento, CA; three sons, Don (Janet) Johnson, Kevin (April) Johnson , all of Statesville and Rodger (Kellie) Johnson of Hamptonville. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and siblings, Ann Price, Raymond Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Ross Gallion and Joyce Baton.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral service honoring Mr. Johnson’s life will begin at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Mark Robinette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
