She was born January 24, 1929, in Iredell County, to the late Rufus and Pearl Dwiggins. Mildred was a faithful member of Jericho Church of Christ, and had retired from B & F Manufacturing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odell C. Phelps; sister, Katherine McCormick; brothers, Rufus Jr. (Buck), Billy, John and Jerry Dwiggins; and son-in-law’s, Sherman Durham, and Glenn Koontz.
Survivors include daughters, Dollie Lankford (Bob), and Nancy Phelps Koontz; grandchildren, Teresa D. Johnson (Harold), Dean Lankford, and Chris Lankford (Susan); great-grandchildren, Amanda L. Gregory (Daniel), Bailey Lankford, Dalton Lankford, Thaddaeus Lankford, Timothy Johnson (Roxanne), Johnathan Johnson (Crystal), Paul Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Daisy Johnson, Kaileigh Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Melanie Johnson, and Dakota Johnson; and one great-granddaughter on the way.
Other survivors include her sisters, Dianne White and Sue Livengood; many precious nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Bill and Lynne Allen, John and Sherry Bunton, and Gene (Beth), and Ricky Cheeks (Ruth).
Services for Mrs. Phelps will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Jericho Church of Christ, in Mocksville. She will lie in state from 10:00a.m. - 10:45a.m. The funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Jack Lipsey and Matt Langfield officiating. Visitation will begin following the funeral service.
