Montez Smith

Mrs. Carroll Montez White Smith, 91, of 470 Reynolda Dr. Statesville, passed away Monday August 2nd at her home. She was born on October 30, 1918 in Mooresville to the late Carl and Ella Montez White. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Cleveland Smith, Jr., whom she married on February 22, 1943 and an infant daughter, Debbie Yvonne Smith.

She is survived by four daughters, Sylvia Smith Cates of High Point, Beverly Smith Kappler (Doug) of Raleigh, Nancy Smith Steele (Leonard) of Statesville and Sheila Smith Boggs (Kevin) with whom she resided.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Smith Phillips (Gordon) of Dora, Alabama.

Graveside serevices will be held today (Wednesday) August 4th at 4:00 P.M. at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Corbell officiating. The family will visit with friends and family immediately following the service at the cemetery. At other times, the family will be assembled at 470 Reynolda Rd. Statesville.
