

She was born March 18, 1933, in Iredell County, and was the daughter of the late Clayton and Lois Boger Cartner. In 1975, she became a homemaker and the bookkeeper for Roy Koontz & Son Sawmill which now operates as Koontz Logging. She enjoyed her gardening, flowers, crocheting and watching her ten grandchildren grow into adults.
She was married to John Roy Koontz, who preceded her in death in 1997.
She is survived by her four children, Delaine Cranfill (Harvey), Jake Koontz (Sherry), Peggy Carlton (Mike) and Shirley West (Terry); ten grandchildren, Jim Brown, Johnny Brown (Leanne), Ellie Drye (Noah), Brianna Cranfill, Josh Koontz (Christy), Bryan Koontz (Kellie), Daniel Lambert (Kelly), Adam Lambert, Jonathan West and Jennifer West; ten great-grandchildren, Kody, Mason and Lyla Brown, Caleb and Ashlen Drye, Ben, Baylee, Berkley and Luke Koontz, and Danielle Lambert; nine siblings, Mildred (the late Harvey) Beck of Harmony, Aliene (the late Tom) Ballance of Mocksville, Johnny (Katherine) Cartner of Bladenboro, Carl (Margaret) Cartner of Huntersville, Clinton (Beverly) Cartner of Stanley, Ann (Marvin S. ) Cline, Andy (Beverly) Cartner, Alice (the late Bob) Waugh, and Willa (John) Wootton, all of Statesville.
Funeral service celebrating Mrs. Koontz's life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 9, 2013, at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will speak with friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
