A graduate of Union Grove High School, Class of 1953, Rachel carried forward a steady, kind-hearted way of meeting the world—one marked by warmth, quiet strength, and a devotion that showed most clearly in how faithfully she cared for the people and places entrusted to her. She served the public in retail, offering the simple grace of being attentive and helpful, the sort of presence that made everyday errands feel a little easier.
Rachel was married for 57 years to the late Brice Campbell, and the life they built together was rooted in love and steadfast commitment. She was preceded in death by her husband; her father, Evin Andrew Coleman; her mother, Ola Clyde Gregory Coleman; and her brothers, Charles Coleman and Henry Coleman.
Those who knew Rachel best will remember how much joy she found at home—especially outdoors. She was an avid gardener who loved a well-manicured lawn, full flower beds, and tomatoes and cucumbers on the vine. Her care for growing things mirrored the care she gave her family: patient, attentive, and deeply devoted.
She was, above all, a beloved and fantastic Grandma—active in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, present for the moments that mattered, and generous with her time and heart. She adored being called “Mamaw,” a name that fit her perfectly and was spoken with affection by those who were lucky enough to say it. Mamaw also enjoyed cheering on her teams, and was an avid fan of both the Carolina Tarheels and the Atlanta Braves.
Faith was a steady comfort throughout her life. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, and attended Monticello Baptist Church, in Statesville, both of which ministered to her spiritual needs.
Rachel is survived by her son, Dewayne Campbell (Sue) of Union Grove; her daughters, Loretta Stone (Bobby), Winna Parks (Sam) , all of Statesville, North Carolina, and Shawn Reece (Joe) of Olin, North Carolina; and her daughter of the heart, Brenda Bradshaw. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Reagan Wimmer, Jared Stone, Emily Ann Tutterrow, Carissa Van Zyl, Sara Beth Hines, and Rachel Claire Reece; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Stone, Henry Stone, Luke Wimmer, Stevie Hines.
The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow in The Chapel at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 pm.
