Born in Iredell County on July 7, 1961, he was the son of the late Espy Ray Benfield, Jr. and Shelby Fox Benfield, who survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shelley Rae Benfield and a brother, Eric Benfield.
Scott is also survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra (Sandy) Johnston Benfield; daughter, Candice Nance; sister, Angela Ostwalt (Aaron); sister-in-law, Kathy Gandy; nephews, William Gandy (Terry) and Eric (EJ) Benfield (Brittany); nieces, April Williams (Kenny) and Lauren Prevette (Kevin); great-niece, Victoria, (who called Scott "Papa Ralph") and great-nephews, Will, Ethan, Zack and Easton.
Scott attended West Iredell High School. He worked many years in construction owning and operating Scott Benfield Construction and Remodeling. He was a member of Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church.
Scott loved fishing, taking care of animals and his country. He also enjoyed restoring antiques tools which later became a second career. He especially enjoyed the satisfaction of taking something old and making it look new again. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Sons of the Confederate. He was very passionate about his beliefs.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at Grassy Knob Baptist Church, Union Grove, NC, with the Rev. Mike Kilpatrick officiating. Active pallbearers will be Eric Benfield, Ethan Gandy, Kenny Williams, Michael Tomlin, and Scott Tomlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Easton Benfield, Zach Myers and Will Gandy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church, 769 Scotts Creek Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
