

Rob was born July 27, 1943 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Robert Earl Hewitt and Ruth Poston Hewitt. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Carole Middlesworth Hewitt, whom he married on September 9, 1962. They were blessed with three surviving daughters, Kim Clark of Libertyville, Illinois, Amy Zwilling of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Beth Scarlata, and husband, Mike of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, known to them as Poppa, Chase and Logan Clark, Kendall and Chloe Zwilling, and Brody and Bram Scarlata.
Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Nancy Hewitt Bell and husband, Craig of Statesville and his sister-in-law, Janice Knight and husband, Jim of Tallahassee, Florida, five nieces and many cousins.
He graduated from Statesville High School in 1961 where he was fondly known as Mickey and proudly played football for the Greyhounds. His professional career spanned numerous ventures beginning as the Advance Store Manager in Florence, S.C. to award winning sales management positions with 3M Corporation to entrepreneurial start-ups in the plating industry. He retired in 2010 as the Southeast Regional Manager for Orchem Corporation based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Rob was passionate about Holden Beach annual family vacation week, his grandchildren, beach music and exploring the USA, his final frontier being a dream trip to Alaska for his 50th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed boating on Lake Norman and on the Intercostal Waterways of N.C. He was an avid Civil War buff, a Star Trekkie, a Snow Village craftsman and a lover of dogs.
The family would like to thank all of Rob’s caregivers, “his earthly angels” at Brookdale Peachtree, formerly Clare Bridge, for all their loving care over these past three years. Special thanks to Katrina, Latisha and Haley for their extraordinary care.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, April 29, 2017 in the Westmoreland Chapel at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will receive loved ones and friends following the ceremony.
