

She was born April 29, 1934, in Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Ethel Moore Queen. She operated the O.W. Mayberry Store on Linney’s Mill Road for more than twenty years and retired from Neiman Industries. She was a member of Barker’s Grove Baptist Church and a devoted caregiver to family and friends. She dearly loved and enjoyed her daughter and grandchildren, enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking and was known for being quick-witted.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1972 by her husband, Oliver Mayberry, whom she married in 1950; a sister, Flora Henderson; and a special friend, Bill Benfield.
Rosa is survived by a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” M. Ervin (Scott) of Statesville; two grandchildren, Seth Ervin (Janet) of Charlotte and Olivia Ervin of Statesville; and two sisters, Martha Gwaltney of Hiddenite and Mary Davis of Union Grove.
Funeral services celebrating Rosa’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with her nephew the Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery.
John Hicks, Larry Austin, Bert Connolly, B.J. Arning, Kam Brown, and David Mayberry will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of the daughter, 105 Renaissance Place, Statesville.
