Born on May 31, 1924, he was the son of the late Houston Allison Jurney and Winnie Hoots Jurney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Jurney and Frances Jurney, and a sister, Beth Hayes.
Roy was a gentle soul who was willing to offer help to anyone who asked. He worked in the trucking industry for over 60 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Statesville Oasis Shriner’s Lodge #27. He was a United States Marine Veteran who honorably served his country in Guam. Most of all, he was a family man who held his family close to his heart.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 69 years, Reda Weatherman Jurney; daughters, Shelia (Jim) Freeman and Pam Frazier; sons, Danny (Cindy) Jurney and Scott (Julie) Jurney; brother, Rondal (Judy) Jurney; sister, Mary Bell; grandchildren, Justin (Maggie) Jurney, Jessica (Michael) Bendenbaugh, Kristina (Will) Hall, Richard Freeman, Sonja (Ryan) Becknell and Josh Frazier; and six great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Oakdale Baptist Church on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 with Rev. Allen Lunsford and Rev. Matthew Eades officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Iredell County Military Honors Burial Detail.
A committal service will be held at the Mausoleum of Iredell Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Masonic burial honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church, 585 Mocksville Hwy., Statesville, NC 28625.
