Rozella “Roxie” Sharpe Phillips, 89, of Statesville, died on October 11, 2019 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Annabelle Josey Sharpe. She opened Dan’s Restaurant and worked there for many years. For a majority of her life, she worked in the textile industry. However, at the age of 82, she retired from J.R.’s. She was a member of Bristol Drive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; by her great grandson, Matthew Elliott; and three brothers, J.D., A.Z. and David Sharpe and three sisters, Frances Sibley, Willie Rowland and Rachel Fox.
“Roxie” is survived by a son, Curtis St. Clair (Harriet); by a daughter, Judy Childers; by four grandchildren, Chad Elliott, Scottie Elliott, Mandy St. Clair and Nikki St. Clair; and by six great-grandchildren, Riley and London Elliott, Daven Seehler, Nixon Ledford, Alyssa St. Clair and Bryson St. Clair. Her special doggie friends, DeDe and Bandit, also survive her.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jerry Shoemaker officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm, prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
