Ruby L. Merrell

She was born June 30, 1929, in Cabarrus County, NC and was the daughter of the late John Hubert and Daisy Wilkerson Smith. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a CNA at Brian Center of Statesville for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Lee Murph, Sr. and Bob Merrell; and a son, Shane Merrell; and a brother, Bob Smith.

Ruby is survived by three daughters, Judy A, Triplett (Robert) and Linda Sloop both of Statesville, and Sandra Reid of Lubbock, TX; two sons, Claude Lee Murph, Jr. (Beth) and Jerry Wayne Murph (Diane), both of Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Mausoleum where entombment will follow with the Rev. Conley Matlock officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity or church of the donor’s choice.
