She was born in the Loray area July 30, 1922 to the late Rufus Alexander Stamper and Annie Hoover Stamper. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Wooten, a son Frankie (Janie) Stikeleather, and grandchildren Bryan Wooten, Morganton, NC; Lisa (Scott) Shew, Monroe, NC; Marc Stikeleather, and Laura Stikeleather of Statesville. She was blessed with 3 great grandchildren, Megan, Ally, and Dawson Shew of Monroe, NC. She also leaves a cherished niece, Nancy Hutchinson, and her daughters Karen and Amy. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Lewis R. Stikeleather, and siblings Mabel Parker; Arnold, Hubert, Hoyt, and Fred Stamper.
Ruth was a graduate of Scotts High School. She had a long-time career with JCPenney and developed many friendships there which she cherished deeply.
A loving mother and grandmother, she was known for her delicious home cooked meals and her generous spirit. She was a devout woman, a faithful member of Concord Presbyterian Church, and a member of the JC Stikeleather Sunday School Class.
In her most recent years, Ruth was plagued with dementia but that did not deter her sweet personality or smiling face. When faced with questions she didn’t know how to answer, she responded with a beautiful smile and a pleasant laugh.
While all her family and friends deeply mourn her passing, we are comforted knowing she is now of sound mind, able-bodied, and enjoying a reunion with her husband and loved ones.
The family extends a special thank you to her caregivers, Amy Matney, Amy Beck, and Judy Ball. We also thank the staff of Brookdale Community for their loving care during her last days.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, May 14, 6-8 pm at Bunch Johnson. Funeral service will be Friday, 2 pm at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kyle Goodman officiating. The family will receive friends at other times at Ruth’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Presbyterian Church, 3867 Taylorsville Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Shew, Jim Stamper, Bob Stamper, Don Boan, Jimmy Barnette and Richard Lowrance.
Online condolences may be made at www.bunchjohnsonfuneralhome.com.
