So sorry for your loss. When sadness fills our hearts, we must sometimes believe what we can't see. May God show you the way to peace, hope, happiness and comfort. A fond memory I have of Sally was seeing her perform live at a club, she was definitely in her element when she was behind a keyboard and singing. We love you,so much!

Sally was my first friend. I loved eating lunch at her house because we would have Duke Mayonnaise sandwiches and orange drink. Then we would play endlessly with our paper dolls, we would sing,, play piano and "play act" movies, mostly  Roselyn Russell, Auntie Mame ,etc.  one time we were playing beauty parlor  and I cut one side of her pretty long hair. Ms  Watts was not pleased!  Poor Sally then had to go to a real beauty parlor and get a decent cut!  She was so smart, pretty, talented and the best friend a little girl could have.  She is leading the Heavenly Choir and playing the Celestial organ!  May God bless her daughter of whom she was so very proud. Sally came to my sister's funeral, the last time I saw her in 1989. She said"oh, Sarah Anne, I wish you could meet my daughter.  She is just like we were!"  She grew up to be a musician and so did my younger son. He was in a band for 14 years.  Look him up, Jennifer.  . He is David Sease of Stretch Armstrong. In their last album, he wrote , sang and played a song,"A Time for Peace" , in memory of my late husband , his stepfather. You may find it comforting now.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dear mom. I can't imagine the pain you are going through, but know I am glad we reconnected and I will always be here for you just like old times. I will always remember your sweet mother playing and singing when I came over to play dolls, or to see her perform at the Statesville mall. I have so many memories of you and her together growing up on East Broad Street. I  was so sad to hear y'all had moved and always wondered where y'all went. Please don't ever doubt yourself that you didn't measure up to her expectations as an only child. You were always there for her, and always did the best you could for her. She loved you and Ethan always. May you find comfort in knowing that she is free of from her pain now, and in a much better place. Many prayers go out to you dear friend, and I hope your mom was appointed to take care of all of my sweet cats in heaven. She is doing an awesome job.

   I am so sorry to hear about your mother. My father was Tom Fox who was in the Franklin Hammer Band with Sally. I grew up listening to her sing. She was wonderful and a great friend of the family. She will be a great loss to Statesville. Tom passed away last year at this same time so I understand what you are going through. Know that her memories, legacies and friends will keep her alive in many ways.

Sally, I didn't know you personally, and we didn't talk more than a couple times in response to a post, but I have seen a lot of very positive things written in your memory that I know and feel, all those good things were true. I could see your bright smile and just know there is a bright soul inside.  A bright soul that is with our Lord eternally.

I'm so sorry for your loss. She is in a better wonderful place free of pain & struggle.

Jennifer, I first met sweet Sally when I moved to Statesville the summer before our 8th grade at D. Matt. We lived near each other and soon became good friends, spending time at each other's homes. I remember they had a little (black, I think) kitten that Sally said was named Dammit because her mom was always fussing at it "Dammit, get out from under that chair!" We listened to lots of Broadway show music, Auntie Mame being her favorite, of course. Sally was able to play absolutely anything on the piano, totally by ear, and we rocked out to many of the hot rock 'n roll tunes of our day too. In the summer before we started high school at SHS, your grandmother Beulah drove her car all the way to New York City with Sally, Ruth, Judy and me for a big adventure. We stopped at night along the way, then stayed in a hotel when we got there. I remember our car broke down just as we were turning onto Broadway, causing horns to blow, obviously heralding our arrival! We took a tour bus and boat around the city, saw a real "Beatnik" in Washington Square, went to My Fair Lady on Broadway, ate one meal at Sardi's and most of the rest at the Automat, where we chose food from those little windows. The highlight of the trip for your mom was when we got back to our room. She placed a phone call to the hotel where Rosalind Russell lived with her husband and had the foresight to ask for "Mrs. Brisson," her married name. Soon RR was on the phone! They talked for a little while and she told Sally that Sally had a delightful southern accent and if Rosalind was ever in a play or movie placed in the south, she would call Sally to be her voice coach. What a wonderful experience! 
Although Sally and I didn't keep in touch through the years, her early kindness to me and our fun adventures together will always be in my heart.

Dear Jennifer,

I wish I could ease your pain. Please know I am sending you love during this time of deep sorrow with the hope it will give you strength. I know Sally as the amazing woman who gave  you (my friend) life, and the woman who shared her incredible musical talent  with you. You are both beautiful, talented women with many lovable nuances.  I will imagine her singing happy beach music in her vibrant young figure dancing around having the time of her life.    Hugs for your heart. My condolences and deepest sympathies to you and your family.  RIP, Sally, May Your Spirit Soar Free.

Jen, I am so sorry for your loss. I will be praying for you and the family.

I knew Sally when I was around 12 or 13 years old I used to babysit her daughter Jennifer. We used to go to some of their band practices and dance around while they were playing. My dad Don Berg was the bass player and Jennifer's mom Sally was the keyboard player. We listen to them practice Ooh baby baby.. Her mom used to sing it we got to listen to it but before they played it out at gigs... A lot of times practice was at a warehouse from which one of the guys in the band would work at.... I went over to Sally's house to babysit her daughter Jennifer and when her mom got back we went over to the pool and went swimming... remember it like it was yesterday!!!!!

Many memories with Jennifer and Sally both. I remember Sally being so understanding and such a good friend. She had musical talent like none I have ever known. I take great comfort knowing that she passed her talents to you, Jennifer. She will be greatly missed....But just as with the music she blessed us with, we will also carry her in our hearts for our lifetime. I can't express my sympathy for you Jennifer. You were blessed to have a special relationship with your mother. May God comfort you and your family.

No doubt that she was a good woman who has left many many fond memories for all whom were close to her and blessed this world a daughter whom is filled with her mother's talent to carry on her legacy.

Sally was in a band with my cousin and  was always impressed with her talent . Then through Statesville Little Theatre got to know her better   loved her spirit and friendship . I remember when you were born, Jennifer and you were the light of her life  you'll be in my prayers and thoughts

Jennifer, hold on to the very special memories that you have of your Mom. She was a very talented lady so I'm sure you have lots of memories. I remember the first time I met you Sally. I'll never forget your beautiful voice. When I left Aurora and shortly after I started at Maple Leaf I got to see you again. That's when we made nick names for each other. I named you my Sally Wally and you name me your Lizzy Wizzy. We were definitely a couple of sillys. I'm sad that my friend is gone, but remembering the person you were I keep telling myself that you would not want me to be upset. So I rember the good times we had and it makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside and I crack a smile. I truly feel honored to have known such a talented,warm, and loving person. You was a great friend to me Sally. I will miss and love you always. R.I.P. Sally Spangler.

Ms. Sally....She was something else.  I am one of Jennifer's close friends.  We used to go to lunch together often at Bi Bi's when it was opened...Jennifer and I would go there often, but the first time I remember hearing Sally play the piano was there one evening.  I know she loved Jennifer and Ethan, she adored them.  I remember one time she was in Davis Hospital and I went to visit her, she said she was so hungry.  All she wanted was a hotdog from JB's, off I went.  She ate that like nobody's business, she will be missed by many and loved by everyone she meet.  Walk up on that golden road proudly, I know everyone in heaven is loving your piano and singing skills!!!  I love you and will always always be here for your daughter.

I will miss Sally's sweet smile whenever we would see each other.  Sending prayers to you Jennifer.  Your mom was a very special lady!!
