Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth "Lib" Cartner Stroud went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by her family. Lib was born to the late Percy Lee Cartner and Sarah Rose Etta Foster. She wore many hats over the years, including textile mill worker, hairdresser, caregiver, homemaker, and cattlewoman. Lib was very active in the Iredell County Cattlemen's Association. She also served as both President and Vice President of the North Carolina Cow Belles. In addition to her varied talents, she enjoyed living life to its fullest. She was a wonderful friend, a vital part of her family, and loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and strength.
On November 27, 1954, she married the love of her life, Clarence Lavette Stroud. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings: Paul Cartner, Beulah Prather, Naomi Stroud, Ruth Kimmer, Mary Godbey, and John Cartner. Lib is survived by her son, David. Left to cherish her memory are her grandsons, Stan (Shelly) and Jacob (Kristen); the lights of her life, her great-grandchildren, Makayla (Bree), Andi (Jonathan), Jensen, Tyler, Sophie, Tarryn, and Emmy; her loving niece and friend, Marie Prather; several other nieces and nephews; as well as her faithful companion, Lassie.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Jason Whitley officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery in Harmony.
