

Born October 6, 1921, in the Rankintown community of Iredell County, she was the daughter to the late Rodney and Inez Dalton.
Mrs. Horne attended Billingsley Memorial Academy, The Morningside schools and graduated from Morningside High School. She went on to attend the former Winston-Salem Teachers’ College (now Winston-Salem University), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She earned her Master’s degree from A&T State University. She began her teaching career in Conover and Newton, before retiring from the former Mulberry Street School.
Mrs. Horne was a dedicated member of Scotts Chapel, where she served faithfully as a communion steward and treasurer of our unit of United Methodist Women. She also served on numerous committees and voluntarily took on special church projects. Her openness and devotion to Scotts Chapel shall always be appreciated.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. Horne.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Conrad Dalton and wife Bettie of Statesville; nieces, Cenell Love, Courtney Love, Harriette Wilson, Tamala (Glenn) Anderson, and Ashley Dalton; nephews, Ronald (Judy) Alexander, Justin Dalton, Brian (Angela) Dalton, William (Kaori) Dalton, and Ryan Dalton and extended family members.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 12:00 PM in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service.
