OBITUARY

William Jackson "Jack" Day Sr.

William Jackson “Jack” Day Sr., 78, of Statesville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Born on September 4, 1940 in Hickory, NC, he was the son of the late Harold S. Day and Nell McGee Hestwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Day.

Jack was a retired software engineer from GKN Automotive. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was an avid outdoorsmen who loved hiking, sailing, and backpacking. He also enjoyed cooking and bread-baking. He was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 53 years, Sylvia Holder Day; son, Jack (Linda) Day Jr of Fairfax SC; daughter, Julie (Matthew) Jones of Asheville, NC; sisters Judith (Bill) Royal of Greensboro, NC and Jean Parrish of North Richland Hills, TX; and grandchildren, Eliette Jones and Audrey Jones.

A funeral service will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Chris Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the church parlor, prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial UMC, 825 Wesley Drive, Statesville, NC 28677.
