

Mr. William Glenn Hill, 90, of 289 Hill Dairy Road, Statesville, and a longtime resident of the Central Community, died Tuesday evening, February 5, 2013, at his home. He was born September 9, 1922, in Iredell County, and was a son of the late Robert Clarence and Eva Drye Hill. He served in the US Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines and receiving numerous awards and was a retired farmer. He was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school Superintendent, Sunday school teacher and any other thing when asked to serve. He was a faithful servant of his God and church and family. He held memberships in the V.F.W. Hiddenite Post #1000, the Gideons International Statesville North Camp for many years and the Central Grange. He was a well known dairy farmer receiving numerous milk production awards in the county. He was preceded in death on August 7, 2007, by his wife, Lillie Mae Sherrill, whom he married on November 20, 1946; a sister, Margaret H. Johnson; and three brothers, Ralph, Allen and Herman Hill.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Hill and his wife, Ann; a daughter, Nancy Hill, all of Statesville; four grandchildren, Chris Goforth (Jennifer), Jason Hill (Jessica), Karen Earp (Butch) and Jamie Glenn Hill (Kacey); and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his friend and companion, Peggy Summers. Services celebrating Mr. Hill's life will be held at 11:00 Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Robinette and the Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites presented by Harmony American Legion Post 113.
