Betty Stanley Cox

Born April 8, 1928 in Freemont, Virginia, Betty was the first child of Barton and Viola Ellington Stanley. Her surviving siblings are Faye Messer, Robert Stanley, Anna Jane Brock, and Dottie Holcomb. One brother, Bill Stanley, and one sister, Margret King, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Omer Lee Cox, who died in 1997. Betty was the mother of 3 boys: Jim Cox of Haleiwa, HI; Tim Cox of Staunton, VA; and Richard Cox, who preceded her. She was the proud grandmother of Jackson Cox of Tahoe, CA; Stuart Cox of Waynesboro, VA; and Alex Cox of Haleiwa, HI. Betty became a great-grandmother with the recent birth of Stuart’s daughter, Alyson Faith Cox.

“Granny”, as she was affectionately known by her fellow believers, was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where she was active until her health declined. Prior to retirement, she had a career with the General Services Administration in Arlington, VA.

The family will receive friends at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home in Staunton on Wednesday, July 17, from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A memorial service will be conducted at Faith Baptist Church by Pastor Eric Brown on Thursday, July 18 at 10:00 am. Interment at Beahms Chapel Cemetery in Luray, VA will be private.
