Born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Carol was the daughter of Arthur L. and Isabelle M. Jeffries Bakewell. Her early life was marked by global exploration, attending twelve schools in twelve years as an Army child. This foundation of curiosity and adaptability shaped her lifelong love of learning and cultural exchange.
Carol pursued a degree in Elementary Education at California State College and went on to teach in both the United States and Europe. Her passion for education led her to earn a Ph.D. from Ohio University, after which she became a dedicated college professor. Whether as a child of the military or as a devoted wife, Carol embraced the adventure of new places, diverse cultures, and lasting friendships.
As a military spouse for over 53 years, Carol stood steadfastly by her husband, Colonel Pat Webb, as they navigated the unique challenges and triumphs of Army life. She embraced the nomadic lifestyle, creating a loving home through postings across the globe—from Kentucky to Texas to Pennsylvania and on to Germany (twice). She was the anchor during deployments and the welcoming smile during homecomings. Her resilience, adaptability, and unwavering support were testament to the strength and spirit of military spouses.
Beyond her professional achievements, Carol found joy in the simple pleasures of life—books, shoes, and trips to her favorite haunt, Talbots.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ben Bakewell, and her son Philip Webb. Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband, Pat; her child, Camden; her sisters, Denise Bakewell (Laurie Logan), and Cherie Sears (Michael Sears); and her grandchildren, Mariska, Morgan, and William Jedzinak-Webb.
For Carol, the world was a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
