Elizabeth Roby Varner

Elizabeth (Cook) Roby Varner, 80, of Staunton passed away early Friday, November 11, 2011 at Emeritus of Staunton surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 23, 1930 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Lillie (Ingram) Cook.

Ms. Varner was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Staunton, where she served in many church circle activities through the years. She was employed by Westinghouse Corporation and after having worked for 36 years for the company she retired.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Irvine Watkins Roby; daughter, Vicky Lynn Cook; brothers, Elzie (Sam) Cook, Harry Lewis Cook and Roger Lee Cook; sister, Marie Cook Haislett.

Survivors include her son, Irvine K. Roby and wife Gaytha of Staunton; grandchildren, Shiloh Roby and Josh Puffenbarger and wife Amber; sister, Mary Martha Fetters of Toledo, OH; sister-in-laws, Betty Cook of Craigsville and Dot Roby-Clayton of Staunton; special nieces and nephews, Miles Haislett, Cathy Haislett, Josh Fetters, Jackie Margum, Jennifer Cook and Jeffrey Cook.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, with Rev. Jack B. Wilkers officiating. Burial will follow at Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Miles Haislett, Trey Morris, Jeffrey Cook, Joshua Puffenbarger, Shiloh Roby, Larry Hevener and Gary Hevener.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick Street, Staunton.

Ms. Varner’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Emeritus for their love and care over the years.
