Obituary of Jill Poole
Jill Poole, 85, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Poole was born on May 25, 1936 in Wellingborough Northamptonshire, England, and was a daughter of the late Albert Farrow and Edith (Roberts) Farrow. Jill lost both of her parents at an early age, her father torpedoed during World War II and her mother to an accident when she was a newly wed with three young children. An early story that Jill told was that during World War II she was too young for a Mickey Mouse gas mask, and she was envious of her beloved brother Robert who had one. Mum was a powerhouse and while she didn’t have a career she took her “job” as the matriarch very seriously (good thing too). Our father her husband (Neville) travelled extensively throughout the world leaving her to cope with unruly sons and all things domestic. The family emigration to the US was completely of Jill’s doing. With the family dog we arrived into Boston aboard the Queen Elizabeth II (Dad was aboard but worked on a large project en-route). The Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association (TBPA) was an important link for “expat” English women. Jill held numerous leadership roles and relished getting together with her friends. Neville and Jill built their dream house atop the hill which they were able to enjoy together; and where Jill’s journey ended. After Neville’s death Jill, still full of life, befriended Theodore (Ted) Kaminski of Philadelphia. The two of them enjoyed many trips and adventures. On May 21, 1956 she married Neville John Poole, who preceded her in death on April 20, 1999. Mrs. Poole is survived by her sons, Michael J. Poole and wife Kim of Churchville, Martin J. Poole and wife Ann of Staunton, David Christopher Poole of Lynchburg (partner Stephanie Tinsley of Staunton); grandchildren, Mark Poole and wife Justine, Michelle Poole Huber, Rebekah Poole (Chip Dovel fiance'), Cameron and Allison Poole, Krystal Stuples, Christopher Robinson ; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jordan Poole; Sean, Madilynn and Kent Huber ; and her sisters in law, Sue Farrow (Scott, Simon and Leigh), Sonia Poole (Laura and Carolyn), both of England. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Poole was preceded in death by a brother Robert Farrow and brother in law Peter (Percy) Poole. The family would also like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to her grandson Mark and his wife Justine, for all the wonderful care and their devotion to Jill over the past years. The family will receive friends on Saturday July 10, 2021 from 4 until 6 PM at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter, 30 W. Gude Dr., Ste 150, Rockville, MD 20850 US Arrangements entrusted to the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
