

Luciano Gioacchini, 85, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday May 10, 2012 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Gioacchini was born on May 12, 1926 in Rome, Italy and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gioacchini. He retired after from Genesco after 25 years where he worked as a supervisor. Luciano was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Staunton and was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Skyline AARP and was very active in the Virginia Democratic Party, working closely with Gov. Mark Warner. He was also an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
On September 30, 1995 he married Audrey Mason who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gioacchini is survived by three step-daughters, Candace Mason Wingfield of High Point, NC, Renae Mason of Appomattox, VA, Deronda Mason-Bennett of Verona, VA; a step son, Charles Mason and wife Jackie of Mt. Juliet, TN; seven grandchildren, Jessica Wilson and husband Jesse of Lynchburg, Daniel Wingfield and fiancé Jackie Barrera of Charlotte, NC, Kellie Schafer and husband Jason of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Cabaniss and husband Scott of Appomattox, Caitlan Bennett and fiancé Randy Lathrop of Staunton, Tyler Mason of Mt. Juliet, TN and Jacob Bennett of Verona; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and Italy. He was preceded in death by two brothers. The family would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Drs. Max Luna, David Brandt, David Chernoff, and Emanual Cirenza and the nursing staff at Augusta Health and Augusta Nursing and Rehab for all of their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday May 13, 2012 at 2 pm at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Rev. Dan G. Mason and Deacon Jim Kledzik officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 4 until 6 PM at the funeral home.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 11AM at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barney Cincotto, Luigi Retrosie, Rick Stroemple, and Sam Williams.
