Richard Wayne Matheny

Richard Wayne Matheny, 60, of 841 Jefferson Highway, passed away in his sleep Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at his residence. He was born January 14, 1955, a son of the late Clemmer Eugene and Louise Diggs Matheny. Survivors include his children, Ryan Matheny and Karla Matheny Holland and husband, Matthew of Glen Allen, VA to whom he was a proud, dedicated and loving father and friend. He is also survived by two brothers, Mark Matheny and wife, Stacy of Stuarts Draft, Garry Matheny and wife, Sheila of Staunton; sister, Tina Matheny of Staunton; many nieces, nephews; and the mother of his children, Karen Matheny. Rick was a very kind, cheerful and caring person who loved his family, friends and dogs with all his heart. He enjoyed life to the fullest, as he was always there to lend a helping hand. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed all sports, coaching, golfing and was a long time member of the Waynesboro Elks Lodge 2270.He retired from UPS in 2004 with 25 years of dedicated service. Following cremation, a celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Waynesboro Elks Lodge, 1700 Harvard Rd., Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro Elks Lodge 2270, 1700 Harvard Rd., Waynesboro, Virginia 22980. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. Sorry for the loss of a real good friend and buddy, I'll always remember you by you saying "what's up homie". Remembering all of the good ole times and fun we shared together. Sorry you had to leave us so soon but I know you're in a better place. Rest in peace my friend! It was an honor to share breakfast with you at the UPS retiree monthly gathering.
