Wilbur Kennie "Pops" Back

Wilbur Kennie “Pops” Back, 78, of Staunton passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at his residence. Born May 5, 1934 in Staunton, he was the son of the late Robert Lloyd and Emma King (Cason) Back. Mr. Back was an active member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on lawn mowers, gardening, auctions and butchering hogs with his brother Charlie every year in November. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby C. Back, whom passed away on November 13, 1999; sisters, Margie Gulley and Nancy Gayhart. Survivors include daughters, Loretta Fitzgerald and companion Richard Jefferson of Staunton, Rebecca Ann Nelson and husband Jeff of Staunton, Connie Back and companion Herman Gentry of Hinton and Doris Wood and companion Lloyd of Staunton; son, Michael Back and companion Dale Bagarus of Craigsville; sister, Bonnie Hanger and husband Johnnie of Staunton; brothers, George Back and wife Ora of Asheville, NC, Marvin Back and wife Ellen of Staunton, Frank Preston Back and wife Dot of Staunton and Charlie Back of Bridgewater, VA; grandchildren, Tiffany Mclear, Becky Lee Wood, Donald Wilson Lucas and Geoffery Byron Nelson; great-granddaughter, Hailee Mclear. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren, 1473 Middlebrook Road, Staunton, with Rev. Whitney Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens, Staunton. Active pallbearers will be J.T. Via, Jeff Miller, Charles Back, Jr., Brian Fritz, Jerry Alley, Joey Simmons and Richard Jefferson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick Street, Staunton.
