

Bao Tran, of Herndon, VA, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Vietnam, Bao worked in Cholon before fleeing the country during the war. In 1984, he immigrated with his family to the United States, where he built a new life through resilience and hard work. Bao dedicated much of his career as a chef in multiple establishments, where his passion for food and tireless work ethic earned the admiration of many. He settled at Cheng’s Oriental Restaurant, a beloved local restaurant, where he remained until his retirement in 2012.
At home, Bao expressed his love through cooking, always trying new recipes and delighting his family with meals that combined creativity and tradition. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, sightseeing, and tasting new foods wherever he went. He had fun swimming and could often be found behind a camera, capturing memories through photography and videography. Above all, Bao cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love and generosity left a lasting mark on every generation. His warmth, guidance, and unwavering care will be remembered always.
Bao is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wendy Ha; his three children, Emily Do, Xuong Ha and Michelle Tan; his three cherished grandchildren, Allison Do, Brandon Do, and Ezra Tan; and his younger brother, Lam Nguyen. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in their hearts forever.
